The Details
High School Families,
We are excited to announce our 2027 summer trip to João Pessoa, Brazil, July 9–19! We will continue our partnership with the Anglican Cathedral in João Pessoa with Bishop Marcio and my friend, Marcelo. I have gone the last two years with groups from TFCA, and we have built relationships not just with the Bishop, but also with pastors, youth, young adults, and more. They are truly our partners in ministry and friends.
Don’t forget to fill out our interest form!
Our main focus will be working with the Compassion Project, which is a ministry of the Cathedral. Here is a link to the Anglican Relief and Development Fund’s overview of Bishop Marcio’s work. We will join in Bishop Marcio’s work by putting on a fun and engaging camp at the different project sites around João Pessoa, using sports, crafts, and games to draw more students in. We always draw a crowd of students who are excited to see us. We get to love and encourage them, as many are from low-income homes where both parents are out working all day to provide food for the table. A group from America will naturally attract more students and expand the reach of the Compassion Project.
Our students will have the incredible opportunity to build relationships, work side by side with youth from the Cathedral in serving kids, experience a different culture, and see how God is at work around the globe. Our hope is to cultivate a heart for missions and outreach in our students. We are going to serve, not to be served. However, the truth is that we are deeply blessed every time we go.
There are several other things we will do as well. We will participate in something called Communion on the Streets, where we serve the homeless with a meal in downtown João Pessoa alongside a group from the Cathedral. We bring coloring books and other items for kids. This is something the Cathedral does weekly, and we get to jump in and serve with them. We will also serve the church as greeters and on the band, prayer team, AV team, and more. We have also built in time for relaxation and fun.
Since we have done this trip multiple times, we have many of the logistics down. We stay at a hotel in a good area of João Pessoa on the beach, next to good food and close to the church. We know all the delicious spots to eat and places to grab souvenirs before we fly home. We fly out of IAD through São Paulo and directly into João Pessoa.
I love outreach trips. There is something powerful about taking students outside of their comfort zones to love and serve others. It teaches us what we can and should be doing in our daily lives to live a life on mission. Learning from other cultures, and especially learning how other cultures follow Jesus, helps give students a more diversified view of the Gospel. It is almost inevitable that our students will receive much more from the trip than those we go to serve, but we plan to serve wisely and well.
We need to get a quick idea of interest in order to book flights. If your student is interested in this trip or even considering it, please fill out this brief form to let us know now (1 minute or less to complete).
