Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can be interred in the Columbarium and Memorial Garden?

The Columbarium is intended for TFCA members and their families (parents, spouses, children, stepchildren). The church may also consider someone who is meaningfully connected to the church and other compelling circumstances.

  • What is the first step to reserve a space?

After reviewing details of the Columbarium policies on our website please contact the Congregational Care office at 571-282-0211 to schedule a time to meet with a representative from the church and tour the Columbarium.

  • What is the difference between a wall niche and an inground plot?

The Columbarium offers two burial options: the placement of an urn containing the ashes in a wall niche or burying ashes in the ground within the Memorial Garden. Niches are covered by a stone engraved by the church with the departed’s name, date of birth and date of death. In-ground burials are memorialized on a plaque just outside of the Columbarium inscribed with the deceased’s name, date of birth and date of death.

  • Once I decide between the wall niche or in-ground burial, how do I reserve my space?

After meeting with the Congregational Care department to tour the garden and discuss your desires for placement in the Columbarium, a contract for purchase can be downloaded from our website, completed and returned, along with payment, to the church. Once received, the Congregational Care office will confirm receipt.

  • How do I purchase an urn for the Columbarium niche?

The purchase of the urn containing the ashes of your loved one is an expense that is covered by the church. Please note that the niche size is 11.25 x 11.25 x 11.175. We recommend you contact the church for guidance on the purchase of your urn(s).

  • How does the burial service get scheduled?

Our Columbarium services are typically held in conjunction with a funeral hosted at The Falls Church Anglican and take place immediately following the service. In the event a funeral service was held at a different church, and cremains are brought to the TFCA Columbarium for their final rest, the church will host a Committal Service led by clergy. Family will gather in the lower narthex of the church and will process into the Columbarium for the brief service. Stand-alone Columbarium services do not include a reception, but time is given to the family to gather together and remember their loved one.

  • How many people are allowed to attend a committal service?

In light of the intimate setting of the columbarium, with its enclosed walls, we typically limit attendance at a Columbarium Committal Service to no more than 20-25 individuals. If the committal is taking place immediately following a Funeral Service in our sanctuary, we ask that the number of participants who gather in the Columbarium be limited to 20-25 individuals, typically just immediate family. Other funeral guests may proceed to the reception immediately following the service and enjoy light refreshments. After the Committal Service, other funeral guests will be able to pay their respects at their leisure.
