Breakaway Retreats

Breakaway is a transformative winter retreat for middle and high school students that TFCA has been offering for more than 20 years. Year after year, students tell us that Breakaway was a pivotal point in their spiritual life.

Breakaway From the Every-Day

Breakaway winter retreat is an opportunity for students to pause their regular activities – school, sports, family life – and focus more fully on Jesus. We sing, learn, play, laugh, eat, gather, share, pray, and more…all in the name of Jesus. Students put away phones, tablets, and other electronics and are present with one another and their leaders in a gorgeous mountain setting. They have structured time but also a generous amount of free time to explore and play, to take a break from their busy lives.

Going away to a new location often gives us a new perspective on our lives. Getting out of our usual routines and habits can be a powerful opportunity to reflect on the way we are living and make commitments to change. And the Rockbridge facility is an incredible place to get away to!

A retreat is “a period or place of seclusion for the purposes of prayer and meditation.” Breakaway is a LOT of fun, but it’s not just fun and games. Year after year, students tell us that Breakaway was life-changing, and at the sharing time at the end of each Breakaway session, students give testimonies about how God spoke to them, met them, and is transforming them. Though “retreat” might not look like silent meditation for middle and high school students, it is a period and place for the purposes of prayer and meeting Jesus in all His glory and power.

For Our Partner Churches

TFCA invites the youth groups of other churches to join us for Breakaway

What does this involve? You gather a group of students and leaders, arrange your own transportation to Rockbridge, and then sit back and enjoy all of the teaching, worship, and activities planned and provided by TFCA.

Do we have to be Anglican? No! Churches of any tradition that affirm the core beliefs of basic Christianity, as revealed in the Bible and summarized historically in the three creeds (the Apostles’, the Nicene, and the Athanasian), are welcome to join Breakaway. Since Breakaway is designed for students, we do not emphasize Anglican liturgy or practices specific to a particular denomination.
