Bible Study Resources

Below are some good, time-tested resources for daily Bible Study

The One Year Chronological Bible
Arranged in 365 daily readings as the events unfolded historically.

Through the Bible, Through the Year
Book of daily reflections from Genesis to Revelation by John Stott.

M’Cheyne’s One Year Bible Reading Plan
You can find this online. Other than my mother reading Bible stories to me as a child, nothing deepened my knowledge of scripture as much as following this guide for years.

Encounter With God
Scripture Union publication. Moves slowly through the Bible in brief daily readings with devotional commentary. This we make available to all church members who want them.

“Pray as You Go”
An online app that offers a brief, worshipful time of reflection on a passage of scripture (Roman Catholic).

“Look at the Book” or “Solid Joys”
At John Piper’s “Desiring God” website, these are two options for online apps to help with daily Bible study. Desiring God is a terrific resource.

Praying with the Psalms
A year of daily prayers and reflections on the words of David by Eugene Peterson.

Life Application Bible
Available in various Bible translations, very helpfully annotated with explanatory notes particularly aimed at personal application. Excellent.

E.S.V. Study Bible
Most comprehensive Study Bible. Notes are thorough and excellent, more focused on meaning than personal application.

Bible Translations

We especially like the New International Version, the English Standard Version, the New Living Translation, and the Message, Eugene Peterson’s amazing interpretation.

Lectionary

The Liturgy and Common Worship Task Force, on behalf of the College of Bishops, is pleased to offer the the following Texts for Common Prayer in a PDF format.
