One of the defining traits of God’s Kingdom is service. The New Testament word for this is diakonia, a word often translated “ministry” but which simply means “serving.” It shaped the life of Jesus — “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45) — and it’s meant to shape ours, too.
To be involved in ministry is to take part in the work of service — using what God has given us to meet the needs of others, both spiritually and practically.
Every follower of Jesus has been gifted by God for this purpose. Some are called to teach or encourage, others to organize, care, build, lead, or heal. Each gift matters. Each act of service builds up the body of Christ and brings maturity and health to the church, helping us grow in Christ-likeness (Ephesians 4:13).
Take a step deeper in serving in our local church, discover where your gifts and the needs of our community meet. Within these pages, you’ll find opportunities to serve at The Falls Church Anglican during the up-coming ministry year.
As we humbly and joyfully lean into our call to serve, we take part in the very work of the Kingdom.
