Why do you think Luke included this prayer (and answer to prayer) in Acts? Keep in mind that Luke’s intention was to provide an apologetic (a defense of Christianity), validate Paul’s ministry, and record the inclusion of Gentiles in the early Church. Where does this passage fit into Luke’s goals - what does it contribute and how does it relate to the message of the book so far?
Make a list of the characteristics you notice about the prayer in 4:24-31. Does anything surprise you about their perspective or their requests? Why or why not?
Reading ahead to the events that follow the prayer in this passage, how does God answer? What Spirit-filled characteristics do you see in the believers in Acts?
How would you explain spiritual boldness vs. worldly boldness? (Think of descriptions of Peter in the Gospels and his conversations with Jesus, and consider how he has changed.)
What do we do now? How does this invite us to change?
