You'll have hymns at Christmas, like “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” in which we hear about “how silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given. So God imparts to human hearts, the blessings of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming. But in this world of sin where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.”

So there's a pious and a Holy third coming of Christ, which is the coming into our hearts. And in the midst of the congregation that looks for him in this period, this Holy time between expectation of His second coming to wrap everything up, and the remembrance of His first coming, when it all got started. So Advent is a time of real expectation, looking forward to what began, and looking forward to its fulfillment. And in the meantime, how that is replicated in Christian lives.
