Worship and music

The Falls Church Anglican Worship Ministry is a community of worship volunteers who seek to glorify God and lead God’s people in joyful, reverent, and sincere worship. Using their unique gifts and abilities, these volunteers have a desire to support the corporate worship of God’s people during our three Sunday services, special events and more.

TRADITIONAL MUSIC

  • Description:

    Looking for those who would like to play an instrument in the 9 a.m. service.

    Skills Needed:

    Proficient on a classical instrument, such as brass, strings, woodwinds, etc.

    Training:

    Need to be proficient instrumentalist and read music.

    Membership Status:

    Active congregant

    Time Commitment:

    Occasional Sundays: 8AM - 10:30AM plus extra services during Christmas/Holy Week.

    Commitment Duration:

    One year

  • Description:

    Rehearsals: Thursdays from 7:30PM - 9PM

    Sunday Service:

    8AM - 10:30AM, plus extra services during Christmas and Holy Week.

    Skills Needed:

    Yes

    Training:

    Need to be able to carry a tune. Previous choir experience and ability to read music, helpful.

    Active congregant

    Time Commitment:

    Thursdays: 7:30PM - 9PM

    Sundays: 8AM - 10:30AM ongoing rotational plus extra services during Christmas/Holy Week.

  • Description:

    The string ensemble is a group of musicians who use their gifts and talents to bless others through music during the services.

    Skills Needed:

    Proficient on violin, viola, or cello.

    Active congregant

    Time Commitment:

    Rehearsals: every other Sunday from 10:45AM - 11:45AM.

    Sunday Services: 7:30AM - 10:30AM once a month plus extra services during Christmas/Holy Week.

pRODUCTION

  • Description:

    Microphone placement, gaffing cables, assisting instrumentalists with monitors, set-up/tear-down of platform equipment.

    Skills Needed:

    Some audio experience in live sound or studio environment.

    Training:

    On the job training, shadowing current members.

    Active congregant

  • Description:

    Operates the remote cameras, video switcher, or tripod camera, ensuring consistent camera exposure, focus, and color balance, to provide engaging views of the service to those watching the video feed in the narthex or online. Incorporates graphics and text cues in coordination with the graphics operator.

    Skills Needed:

    Excellent dexterity, good eye for brightness, color, and framing/composition.

    Training:

    Observation of and coaching by an experienced operator.

  • Description:

    Generates timely display of text, graphics, leader cues, and pre-recorded items, using ProPresenter, to enable congregational participation during worship services and similar events. Pre-checks prepared content to make sure all service elements are accurately included, and coordinates cues with video operator.

    Skills Needed:

    High attention to detail, comfort operating software.

    Training:

    Observing and being coached by more experienced operators, practicing the timing and cues.

    Membership Status:

    Active congregant

    1-2 times per month

    Commitment Duration:

    Minimum one year; more preferred

  • Description:

    Activates lighting settings and other presets at appropriate moments during services and events.

    Skills Needed:

    Familiar with theatrical or video lighting. Able to distinguish color differences.

    Training:

    Observation and coaching from an experienced team member.

  • Description:

    Photograph events.

    Skills Needed:

    Proficiency in photography.

    Training:

    Own and operate your own equipment.

  • Description:

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

  • Description:

    Band members serve by helping to lead worship in a variety of contemporary worship contexts.

    Skills Needed:

    Vocals, Drums, Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano/Keys, Strings, Brass, Other.

    Training:

    N/A

    Membership Status:

    Active congregant

    Time Commitment:

    On weeks when serving: Wednesdays 7PM - 9PM and Sundays

    10AM – 12PM

    Commitment Duration:

    Indefinite

LAY LITURGICAL SUPPORT

  • Description:

    Acolytes (6th -12th grades) assist the Clergy and Vergers in the worship services.

    Skills Needed:

    N/A

    Training:

    Vergers provide training.

    Membership Status:

    Member or Confirmed member

    Time Commitment:

    Monthly, 2 hours Sundays and special services

    Commitment Duration:

    Minimum one year

  • Description:

    Prepares elements and the Holy table for Communion; prepares elements for Baptism.

    Skills Needed:

    N/A

    Training:

    Altar Guild leaders provide training.

    Membership Status:

    Confirmed member

    Time Commitment:

    Monthly, 2-3 hours Friday, Saturday, Sunday and special services

    Commitment Duration:

    Minimum one year

  • Description:

    Prepares flower arrangements for worship services.

    Skills Needed:

    N/A

    Training:

    Flower Guild leaders provide training.

    Membership Status:

    Active congregant

    Time Commitment:

    Monthly, 2-3 hours Friday, Saturday, Sunday and special services

    Commitment Duration:

    Minimum one year

  • Description:

    The Usher Guild is a ministry of service and hospitality.  Ushers serve the church by assisting with all worship services.   

    Skills Needed:

    Be able to greet both members and visitors with a smile, assist people on where to go throughout the service, and make everyone feel safe and at home.

    Training:

    Initially, ushers receive individual, on-the-job training. On occasion, ushers will receive training as a group.

    Membership Status:

    Active congregant, Member or Confirmed Member

    Time Commitment:

    The Sanctuary ushers serve one month each quarter. Except for the crew chief, the Cranmer Chapel ushers generally serve about one Sunday a month.
