David and Lucy Chaves

The Chaves Family serves as missionaries in Kenya, through SAMS, specifically focusing on discipleship among vulnerable urban youth. Our vision for ministry is to make disciples through evangelism and teaching. God has called us to work particularly with Kenyan youth from difficult backgrounds, especially those who are struggling physically and emotionally with poverty, neglect, or feeling lost. We aim to share the love of God and inspire hope through Christ-centered educational programs, mentorship, and mission, helping youth to develop a Biblical world view as well as business skills.

We help coordinate school scholarships that cater close to 200 students, an effort that started with Akiba school in Nairobi but has since spread to two other regions in Kenya (Diocese of Maseno West and Kilifi County). Through running the scholarship program, we have come to realize the importance of healthy supportive families in the lives of our students. Our programs have evolved to include parents' discipleship and evangelism.

Though residing in the US, Lucy travels to Kenya frequently and the whole family goes to Kenya for five to six weeks in the summer to participate in the trainings and spend time doing ministry with the local staff members. Lucy also helps coordinate the Bridgers program for SAMS.

David came to Christ through the ministry of TFCA cornerstone at the age of 15 and has been a member of The Falls Church Anglican for over 20 years. Lucy was born and raised in Kenya and came to Christ at the age of 16 through a school ministry. She joined David as a member of TFCA after they got married in 2009.  They are blessed with four children: Joshua, Paul, Zuri and Mark.
