I was born and raised in Philadelphia and met the Lord while at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. I spent several years in the business world before joining the staff of Cru. I worked with college students in Maryland and New Jersey, then came to Washington DC to serve in my current role.

We know the world floods to DC to grow as leaders, gain power, and influence others- but what if people encounter Christ while here and leave as Kingdom Ambassadors? We are passionate about making spaces for the nearly 20,000 college international students in our city to know Christ, grow in their faith, and be sent on mission in the workplace. Serving with Cru’s international student ministry, Bridges International, we encounter students from China, India, Saudi Arabia and beyond. They may have limited access to the gospel at home, but not here.
Our Gunther Ministry Team is composed of A.J., MaryBeth, and Peter. After finishing active duty in the U.S. Army as a Chaplain under The Jurisdiction of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy (JAFC), ACNA, A.J. served as a non-stipendiary priest for a season at TFCA from 2018-2019. He remains resident in the JAFC as a canon missioner and is licensed in the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic (DOMA). MaryBeth is a member of TFCA. She sang in the TFCA Choir and the 11:00 am worship team.
I was born and raised in the Philippines in Manila, and come from a small family with one brother and two sisters. Grateful for my parents who worked hard for us to get a good education. When I was a child I dreamed of going to the US and this dream came true in 1984. So I told the Lord I will do anything for Him. And in 1990 I came to faith and was baptized(Galatians 2:20). From day one, He gave me a heart to share Him and I am deeply grateful. Our Lord also gave me a passion for his word during my early years of discipleship.
The Chaves Family serves as missionaries in Kenya, through SAMS, specifically focusing on discipleship among vulnerable urban youth. Our vision for ministry is to make disciples through evangelism and teaching. God has called us to work particularly with Kenyan youth from difficult backgrounds, especially those who are struggling physically and emotionally with poverty, neglect, or feeling lost. We aim to share the love of God and inspire hope through Christ-centered educational programs, mentorship, and mission, helping youth to develop a Biblical world view as well as business skills.
Nancy and I, serving with SIM, are originally from Raleigh, NC and Roanoke, VA, but have been members of The Falls Church Anglican since 1991. We were sent out from The Falls Church Anglican in 1997 with our two sons Bryce (6) and Joel (4) to bring the gospel to the nomadic Wodaabe Fulani of Niger, West Africa. Our vision was to share Christ in this 98% Muslim nation, while using our skills as a groundwater specialist and a nurse to help the people with water and health care.
The Lord gave me a heart for the world, and an opportunity to exercise that love, first through international student ministry and then overseas, primarilyinsouthernandeastAfrica.Iservedfirstthrough the Anglican Mission organization Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA). I traveled to South Sudan with SOMA and felt called to continue to serve there. I was deeply disturbed by the enslavement of South Sudanese children who were captured and taken to Northern Sudan. Some of these children were redeemed and brought back to South Sudan with no one to care for them.
We live and serve in the predominantly Theravada Buddhist province of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. We are called to holistic ministry as we engage in proclamation, service, and fellowship in settings like our local Anglican church, non-profit organizations, and our children's school community.
